How many watts of solar do you need?
Figuring out the right amount of solar power you’ll need is a breeze with our solar calculator. Click below to determine the ideal amount of solar power based on your build
SOLAR BASICS
Things like lights, fridge, fans, phone chargers, etc all consume power. Solar panels allow for power generation when the sun is out, which allows the battery to recharge rather than drain during the day.
A solar panel absorbs light and converts it into power.
Theoretically yes… but the solar panel should be wired to a charge controller, which will regulate the voltage to properly charge your battery/batteries properly.
A charge controller takes the power generated by your solar panel(s) and converts it into good usable power for your battery. Usually the voltage from solar panel(s) will be significantly higher than 12V so the charge controller will regulate it down to your battery’s charging voltage.
In parallel. MC4 connectors are the gold standard for solar panel connections. You can use splitters to connect multiple panels to one positive and one negative. This runs to your charge controller, which runs to your battery.
It really depends on how many Watts each panel has and the total amount of power you plan to use. We recommend you buy our 370W panel. Assuming sun, you will generate enough power to fully charge a 280Ah battery during the day. 280Ah is enough to run a fridge, fan, lights, an induction cooktop for a bit, and phone charger for a couple days. Add the solar panel and you can run all of those things without too much concern over power consumption.
